Persian children's stories by age
Short answer: for ages 2–4, choose the short, rhythmic folk tales; for ages 5–8, the longer folk tales and the Shahnameh hero stories. Every story below is 3–5 minutes read aloud, illustrated page by page, and checked against at least three traditional sources. The table lists all 49, with an honest note on who each one suits.

Questions
What age are Persian folk tales like Shangul and Mangul for?
The short, rhythmic folk tales (Shangul and Mangul, Khaleh Suskeh, Nokhodi, the Rolling Pumpkin) suit ages 2–4. Longer folk and Shahnameh tales suit ages 5–8.
Is the Shahnameh suitable for young children?
Retold and shortened, yes. Azizan keeps the heroes and the wonder and leaves out the violence; a few Shahnameh stories have a frightening villain, so they are marked for ages 5 and up and are best read together the first time.
How long is each story to read aloud?
About 3–5 minutes, in 11–13 short illustrated pages, so a parent or grandparent can record one in a single sitting.
