Pronunciation is approximate and written for English speakers; accents vary, so ask your relatives how they say them.
Two things worth knowing
- Bahar is also a common given name in Persian, so a child may meet the word first as a person's name.
- Gol means "flower" and is also used in affectionate phrases, so your relatives may use it in more than one way.
Easy ways to practise
- On a walk: name what you see, "derakht, gol, barg", and let the child repeat.
- Season chat: in each season, say the season's name once and ask what has changed outside.
- Video call: a grandparent describes today's season where they are.
We have not found a study showing which method works best for heritage-language children, so treat these as ideas to try rather than a programme.
